Agilent E1406A VXI GPIB Command Module

The E1406A VXI GPIB Command Module has the following features: a single slot, C-Size, 2 MB RAM, and is simple to program as a message-based instrument. This Module can function as a VMEbus system controller and GPIB (IEEE-488)-to-VXIbus interface device for clearly interacting with any manufacturer’s message-based VXI modules. FLASH memory is available for downloading drivers, so the user can program register-based devices by Agilent, utilizing the SCPI commands. The Agilent E1406A also has a MXIbus Resource Manager for VXIbus extensions, so the user can keep up high-performing throughput in numerous mainframe systems. Since the VXI backplane has versatile triggering and clock interfacing, the user can synchronize the backplane 10 MHz clock to an exterior TTL signal.

The Agilent E1406A VXI GPIB Command Module has several options available, which provide additional capabilities and features. For example, Option 10 offers an expanded memory, while Option 20 adds the Instrument BASIC feature. There are also multiple front panel outputs with tests that verify they are working correctly. The tests include an internal trigger source test, a TTL/ECL trigger line source test, a trig in port source test, and a 10 MHz Clk Out signal test. For further information on these tests, the service manual can be referenced.

The processor on the E1406A is 16 MHz, with 0.005% elapsed time clock preciseness, 512 kB maximum shared memory, an input level range from 40 mV p-p to 42.5 mV p-p, initial preciseness of 50 ppm, 1.0 s resolution, and 0.03% jitter (-55 db).
